As you are likely aware, the state of Ohio has designated school staff members as individuals prioritized to receive COVID-19 vaccinations as part of the Ohio Department of Health’s Phase 1b.
The District has been coordinating with the Lake County General Health District and the Educational Service Center of the Western Reserve, and it has been determined that Riverside staff members who opted into receiving the vaccine will have their first dose administered on Thursday, February 25. In collaboration with the Educational Service Center of the Western Reserve, Riverside will also be hosting several other school districts in Lake County as a vaccination site on this day.
Given concerns about the reactions to the vaccine, as well as the need to allow time for staff members to receive the vaccination, the District has made the following adjustments to the school calendar:
- All school buildings will be closed to students on Thursday, February 25 and Friday, February 26.
- School assignments will be posted for all students – both in-person and remote - online on Thursday, February 25. There will be no in-person or remote classes with teachers on Thursday, February 25.
- School assignments will NOT be posted for students on Friday, February 26. Students – both in-person and remote - are encouraged to complete make-up work and/or missing assignments as permitted. There will be no in-person or remote classes with teachers on Friday, February 26.
The vaccination process will require staff members to receive a second dose at some point in mid-March. Once we have more details surrounding the second dose, we will send an update with additional potential adjustments to the school calendar.
