Update from District Nurse

Please reach out to your pediatrician for guidance on when to resume well child visits so you can catch up on or maintain your child’s immunization schedule. At this time, it is still mandated that all pupils entering 7th and 12th grade are required to be vaccinated against meningococcal disease along with the Tdap vaccine prior to 7th grade.

The COVID-19 pandemic is changing rapidly and continues to affect communities across the United States differently. Some of the strategies used to slow the spread of disease in communities included postponing or cancelling non-urgent elective procedures and using telemedicine instead of face-to-face encounters for routine medical visits. This included well child visits.

As Ohio begins to open up, please reach out to your pediatrician for guidance on when to resume well child visits so you can catch up on or maintain your child’s immunization schedule. The CDC and AAP (American Academy of Pediatrics) are encouraging children to resume routine vaccinations to limit the risk for other vaccine-preventable diseases during this critical period.

Also, at the present time, it is still mandated that all pupils entering 7th and 12th grade are required to be vaccinated against meningococcal disease along with the Tdap vaccine prior to 7th grade.

* One (1) dose of meningococcal vaccine plus One (1) dose of the Tdap vaccine is required prior to entry into the 7th grade.
* A second (2nd) dose of meningococcal vaccine is required prior to entry into the 12th grade. If the first (1st) dose of meningococcal vaccine was administered after the 16th birthday, a second (2nd) dose is not required. The second (2nd) dose must be administered on or after the 16th  birthday with at least eight (8) weeks between the first (1st) and second (2nd) dose.

If you are unsure whether your child(ren) has met all vaccine requirements for school attendance, you can check THIS LINK to see what is required for school attendance. Also, you may contact me to check your child’s immunization record on file at school. Thank you for your attention to this matter. Stay safe and well.

Sincerely,
