Bike to School

In a partnership with Painesville Township, Buckeye, Hadden, Hale and Madison Avenue elementary schools participated in Bike to School Day as part of a Safe Routes to School grant during the week of May 2.

The purpose of Bike to School was to encourage students to be physically active and to choose a healthy lifestyle. Parents and community members were also invited to bike (or walk) to school with their children and/or neighbors. Teachers, administrators and local officials also participated.

For students who lived too far away to bike or walk to their schools, each school arranged a meeting point close to the school so students can then bike or walk from the meeting points to the school.

In addition, each school raffled off two to three bikes to students who participate in the event.

The Lake County Sheriff’s Department, Painesville Township Fire Department and Painesville Township Trustees all assisted with Bike to School Day.
