Language Arts

Welcome to Mrs. Tufts' Language Arts

Reading and Writing Everyday!!

LaMuth's goal in Language Arts is to help students become independent readers and writers.  We will utilize The Daily 3, which builds literacy independence while allowing teachers to help individual students during daily conferencing.  We are also using the Lucy Caukins Writing Program to build each student's writing skills and interest in writing.

Objective for All Language Arts Classes:

Throughout this course, students will strengthen their reading skills by learning and applying various reading strategies, practicing reading many different genres, and increasing vocabulary.  Students will gain writing practice as well as, focusing on content, vocabulary, grammar, and personal style.

Assignments:

In order to build fluency and reading skills students need to be reading every day!! This reading should occur at school and at home.  As a general rule students should be reading at least 20 minutes every night in addition to what they read at school.  They will need to do this to reach their 12+ book goal for the school year.  Please look for the "Good Fit" Book handout that will be sent home the first week, it explains how to help your child pick a book that is right for them.

Homework:

Students will be responsible for checking their homework assignments in their Google Calendar every night.  You can view it on my teacher page or add this calendar to your Google account by clicking on the plus sign in the bottom right corner of the calendar.
