Compare | to look at similarities and differences | compare and contrast the personalities of the two characters |
Construct | to make or create | create a story map for “The Cask of Amontillado” |
Describe | to show what something is like | describe the setting including both the time and place |
Evaluate | to make a decision or judgment | evaluate George’s actions at the end of the story. Were they justified? |
Explain | to make clear by giving reasons | Explain the author’s purpose (or main idea, or reason, etc.) and cite details supporting your answer |
Formulate | to develop an idea based on information | based on the information in the article, formulate your own opinions |
Identify | to name or list | identify the theme, protagonist, main idea….. |
Infer | to draw a conclusion beyond what is stated | what can you infer about the character’s reaction the the situation? |
Interpret | to explain the meaning of | interpret the following quote and explain why it is appropriate to the theme of the story |
Predict | to use what is already known to make a statement about what happens next | predict what will happen when Percy meets Poseidon in the next chapter |
Summarize | to briefly state the main points, to condense information | summarize the main idea |
