During the course of the year, students receive instruction in grammar, literature and an introduction to the research paper. The literature unit focuses upon the short story, poetry, and drama. Mythology is studied as well as The Miracle Worker, Romeo and Juliet, sundry stories and poems, and possibly a novel. Literary terms and composition skills are also taught. Students should be reading at or above grade level. Students should have a good work ethic, and should have a basic mastery of the fundamentals of spelling, punctuation, and sentence formation in order to achieve success in a college prep program.
